Know Before You Go: About Stockbridge
With gorgeous scenery, wonderful food and plenty of Southern charm, Stockbridge is a must-visit Georgia destination
This magical little city itself is rich in both history and culture—a true Georgie peach that’s near everywhere you want to be!
Dressing for the Weather
In Stockbridge, humid summer days regularly top around 90 degrees, followed by nights in the low 70s. Bring your sleeveless tops, shorts and umbrellas. Summer downpours are common—July is the city's wettest month with more than 5 inches of rain. April, May, September and October are the most comfortable months, with average daytime highs in the 70s and jacket weather in the 50s and 60s after dark. Heavy coats are in order between November and February, when lows fall into the 30s and 40s, but snow rarely totals more than 3 inches over the winter months.
Hikes and Strikes
Meet granite stonecrop and red-tailed hawks—some of Georgia's protected native plants and wildlife—during a ranger-guided hike. You'll ascend to the top of Stockbridge's Panola Mountain State Park, a national heritage area. The easier 1.5-mile Moonlight Mountain Hike, best suited for kids 10 or older, begins at sunset and ends with s'mores around a fire pit. The park also has 3 miles of self-guided hiking trails. For a longer excursion, the experienced cyclists in your crew can rent bikes and tackle the Rockdale River Trail. At 9.5 miles, it winds through forests, rocky outcrops, wetlands and creeks. If the weather won't cooperate, hit up the Pin Strikes Entertainment Center's 28 bowling lanes. Or, battle each other at laser tag, ride bumper cars, play pool and the latest video games. Check out Pin Strike's discounted weekday rates, when a group of up to eight can bowl for way less.
