Fun for the Little Ones: Plano Activities for Kids
You don't need to go far to find kid-friendly activities when you vacation in Plano
There are plenty of fun things for kids to do in Plano and neighboring communities that appeal to a variety of interests. Watch them build their skills and self-confidence as they explore historic, natural and modern attractions at these top destinations.
Play Like a Kid
Delight young children with playtime in an outdoor-themed environment designed especially for them at Play Street Museum. The Adirondack-inspired campsite and village rolls out kid-sized campers, cabins and activities that are sure to spark some playful pretending.
Park It at a Park
Grab a picnic and head to Frisco Commons in nearby Frisco, where you'll find lots of fun things to do with kids. Let them run around at Hope Park, an award-winning, frontier-themed playground. When it's time for a break, wander through the community garden, explore the nature paths or cool off at the spray park.
Climb the Walls
When kids have you climbing the wall, take them to tackle the climbing wall at the Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium in Allen. The sandstone-textured wall rises 24 feet with routes suitable for beginners through advanced climbers. Best of all, kids can use the wall up to five times for just a few bucks.
Make a Splash
It's always swimming season at Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium. Head for the 7,000-square-foot leisure pool for a water park experience. Don't miss out on the fun, join right in! Bring your suit and zip down a flume slide, float a lazy river or just dangle your feet in the water while you watch the kids climb on the aquatic play structure.
Step Back in Time
Discover what life was like on the Texas Blackland Prairie in the late 1800s at the Heritage Farmstead Museum. Visit the garden where the kids' chores included weeding, harvesting and planting. Peek into the one-room schoolhouse that gave them a break from farm chores. If you'd like to tour the Victorian farmhouse, show up at designated times on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Ride the Rails of Imagination
Ignite childhood imagination as you tour Car 360, an antique rail car that once rolled through downtown all the way to Dallas. The historic rail car is just one of the exhibits at the Interurban Railway Museum. Enjoy interactive displays of the electric equipment used to power the trains and a miniature replica of Plano during the train's heyday.
Get Off the Ground
Glide through the treetops or swing like Tarzan at Go Ape! at Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve. Adults and kids 10 and older get training close to the ground before tackling the 39 adventure challenges that take you ever higher into the forest canopy. You'll walk across rope bridges high in the air, climb cargo nets and zip from tree to tree.
Run Through the Fountain
Take kids 12 years old or younger to play in the interactive Village Fountain at The Village shopping center in Fairview. When they've finished splashing around, dry 'em off and let them play chess on the oversized board at the Grotto. Then make your way to the Village at Allen—about a mile away—for more kid-friendly attractions. The Village Depot play area has an authentic caboose, a hedge maze that's shaped like the state of Texas and kid-friendly Old West playhouses.
