Things to Do in Conway
Need a break from the nine to five grind? It’s time for a vacation to the historic city of Conway.
Located in the northeastern part of South Carolina, Conway has about three dozen listings on the National Register of Historic Places, a restored Main Street and world-class cultural institutions. There’s plenty to see here and plenty to like here.
Conway River Walk
The town’s picturesque River Walk connects to the popular business district and runs along the majestic Waccamaw River—a wonderful place to cool off on a humid summer afternoon. You'll delight in the wonderful bridges, homes and churches you pass that whisper to you of the town's past 200 years.
Tours on Land and Water
Once you get your toes wet in Conway's beauty, you'll want to dive in by signing up for a tour. Paddle the calmly flowing Waccamaw River on a guided kayak tour with the Conway Kayak Company. Think you like trees? The folks in Conway like them too and have developed a brochure that sends you on a self-guided tree tour. Get up close and personal with 10 of the most beautiful and historically significant live oak trees in Conway.
Myrtle Beach
Only 15 minutes away from Conway, Myrtle Beach is a gorgeous piece of the state’s coastline. Beach access signs are situated along the coast, and plenty of vendors offer water activities that families can enjoy. You can also enjoy shell collecting and long walks along the shore.
From Fish Shacks to Fancy
You'll find many great restaurants in this town to choose among, but can you resist a true old-fashioned fish shack? You can purchase and carry away ice-cold raw seafood from the Ocean Fish Market, but it's more fun when you have them grill it up for you, so you can eat it under the oak tree outside. For something less casual, try the Rivertown Bistro in the downtown business area. All the seafood is great, but try the catfish and cheese grits if you get a chance.
