Things to Do in Canton

This city is an incredible under-the-radar hot spot brimming with life and culture—a place where you and your family can discover something new together.

Visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame

If you're a sports fan, make a beeline for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Featuring a treasure trove of artifacts and memorabilia, the Hall of Fame's ever-changing exhibits tell the story of the game's history, from its earliest days to its most recent milestones. Lots of programs and events are tailored for younger visitors, including trivia and games. You'll find all sorts of goodies at the tailgating snack bar as well.

Discover the Art of Canton

The vibrant streets of the downtown Canton Arts District stand in stark contrast to the city's past reputation as a rusty industrial town. Downtown Canton is absolutely alive with arts and culture, from the dozens of unique painted murals that adorn its buildings to the ever-growing crop of galleries and studios. Buzzbin Art and Music Shop, Bliss Art Studio and the Joseph Saxton Gallery of Photography are all great places to start, but there's a good chance a simple stroll through the downtown area will lead you to some favorites of your own.

Get Acquainted With Our 25th President

William McKinley was born in the nearby community of Niles, and lived in Canton for decades between the Civil War and his election to the presidency in 1896. The McKinley Presidential Library & Museum in Canton tells his story, but it goes beyond a simple history lesson. You can explore a wide range of historical and scientific exhibits, including a planetarium and a reconstructed street of historic shops. Be sure to check ahead to see what kind of special events are going on.

Head Into the Great Outdoors

Even though Canton is one of northeast Ohio’s largest urban centers, you don't have to go far to experience a little nature. The Wilderness Center of Wilmot and Quail Hollow State Park, both within 30 minutes of the city, offer a chance to do some hiking, have a picnic and learn more about the state’s wildlife. Take a bike ride on the Ohio and Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor, kayak on the Tuscarawas River or try a little fishing at Sippo Lake.

Take in the Nightlife

Downtown Canton comes alive after dark. Sample local craft brews at the Canton Brewing Company, or head over to Fiddlestix Billiard Cafe for a friendly game of pool. If you get hungry, sample some sushi at the Jasmine Asian Bistro, or chow down on some top-notch pub grub at George's Lounge, which also happens to be one of the best live music spots in town.
