Spokane basks in more than 260 days of sunshine each year. While the city does get some snow, you'll find plenty of sunlight even during the colder months. If you're visiting during the winter, bring a warm coat—temperatures dip down into the 20s and 30s. Spring, summer and fall months are mild with high temperatures usually not exceeding 85 degrees. But stay comfortable during your visit by dressing in layers. Most of the year, you'll want a light jacket or sweater in the evening.
Attracted to the Outdoors
Spokane offers plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities. Pay a visit to Manito Park or take a leisurely stroll along a section of the 37-mile Centennial Trail, which winds along the Spokane River. Other outdoor attractions you'll want to squeeze into your itinerary include the John A. Finch Arboretum and the Skyride over the Falls at Riverfront Park.
Sip some wine at the Arbor Crest Winery, looking out over the Spokane River from a 450-foot bluff. Visit the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture for a wide range of art and natural science exhibits. After you get your fix of art at this fine establishment, take your little ones to Mobius Kids at the River Park Square mall. The hands-on exhibits entertain children and teach them basic science ethics.
Industrious Spokane
Natural resources contribute greatly to Spokane's economy, such as timber, mining and metal fabrication. The Health care industry employs the largest number of locals in Spokane. The U.S. military has a large presence at the nearby Fairchild Air Force Base, which employs thousands.
Getting to and Around Spokane
The Spokane International Airport is the main airline hub for the region. If you prefer ground transportation, hop on an Amtrak train, which serves Spokane from many cities. The train station is located downtown on First Avenue. If driving, you can reach Spokane from Interstate 90. If you're coming from the south end, Route 195 takes you right into town, and from the north, Route 395 brings you here. Once you're in the city, you'll find that it's pedestrian-friendly. When get tired of walking, hop aboard public transit service, which will take you throughout the downtown area.
