Visit Franklin's Historic Main Street
Feel right at home when visiting the charming city of Franklin, Tennessee
Enjoy Main Street, the vibrant centerpiece of the downtown historic district of Franklin. This perfectly preserved walk back in time holds a “Great American Main Street” award, granted by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It's a picturesque setting for the timeless pleasures of strolling and dining, as well as finding a number of entertainment options that are perfect for connecting with friends and family.
Strolling the Streets
Wander the brick sidewalks of Main Street from the Public Square, while taking in the beautifully preserved Victorian homes and timeless storefronts. Stand at the foot of the mid-19th century courthouse, where forged iron columns harbor stories of its gory past—the building was used for branding criminals and other punishments.
Shopping and Dining
With more than 60 shops and restaurants, options are endless on Main Street! You can browse fashion-forward clothing boutiques, galleries and antique stores. Dust off some classics at Landmark Booksellers, known as the Old Factory Store in the days of Andrew Jackson and Davy Crockett. If you can resist filling up on ice cream and fudge at Kilwin's, Main Street has a variety of eateries from fine dining to barbecue. Head to Puckett's Boat House to get your fix of the Southern classics; or taste a bite of history at a Gray’s on Main, located in an historical building that was once a landmark pharmacy for nearly a century.
Evenings Out
Take the family to catch a movie or live show at the Franklin Theatre, known as the crown jewel of Main Street. If you love country music, catch “Music City Roots, Live From the Factory,” a popular radio broadcast show each Wednesday, less than a mile away from Main Street. Hear live music at the legendary Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor just two blocks away. The atmosphere encapsulates the local music scene, with vintage instruments ready for impromptu jams, open mic nights and local beers on tap.
Seasonal Fun
Main Street's biggest annual event is a two-day festival in April. Join some 125,000 visitors for two stages of free entertainment, pony rides, a petting zoo and a Saturday night street dance. Visit in March for the Irish-themed Brew Fest, or bring the whole family in October for Pumpkinfest. The annual Dickens of a Christmas celebration transforms Franklin into a yuletide spectacular, with classic characters from stories of Charles Dickens, carol singers, horse-drawn carriages and roasted chestnuts.
