Go on the hunt around the country for tasty samples of French toast, pizza and queso

Start your day off right with a French toast flight at Chicago’s Batter & Berries, just one of the places where you can find food flights beyond the typical beer selections. Photo Credit: Don Jones, Batter and Berries

Breweries around the world serve flights—samples of a few different beers on tap—as a way for customers to taste test different options. Now, restaurants are joining the trend. Can’t decide on a breakfast beverage? No problem—you can get them all. Is your family arguing over pizza toppings? Sample six instead. Whether it’s beverages or appetizers, main courses or desserts, food flights are a fun way to try more of a menu. Read on for some of our favorite food flights around the country!

Let the syrup flow for French toast flights at Batter & Berries

In Chicago, chef Ken L. Polk serves French toast food flights at Batter & Berries. Each flight includes four varieties of sweet French toast with unique toppings: strawberry with strawberry sauce and more strawberries on top; blueberry topped with blueberry cream sauce and fresh berries; caramel with candied walnuts and caramel sauce; and lemon topped with lemon zest, candied walnuts and sumac.

Start your day off right with the brunch flight at Area Four

At Area Four, in Boston, Massachusetts, brunch-goers don’t have to choose between a mimosa or bloody mary. They can get flights that include both, plus a coffeehouse porter and a cocktail called cider & bitters. The Brunch Flight is $18 and is served at Area Four’s Kendall Square location.

Enjoy French fries in a new way with sauce flights at Manneken Frites

Denver, Colorado’s Manneken Frites specializes in Belgian-style frites—freshly cut, twice-cooked fries served in a paper cone. If you can’t choose between ketchup or another of the 25 available dipping sauces, go for the sauce flight. Choose any four dipping sauces for $2. Aside from ketchup, popular options include parmesan pesto garlic mayo and a traditional Belgian aioli with chives and shallots.

Explore a different kind of beverage with a kombucha flight at Lenny Boy Brewing Co.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, Lenny Boy Brewing Co. serves a healthier food flight option. The local microbrewery offers a kombucha flight with four flavors: Good Ol’ Ginger is flavored with organic ginger, molasses, green tea and cane sugar; Mint Condition is made with spearmint and peppermint leaves, as well as green tea; Elite Beet has beets, ginger, green tea and cane sugar; and Wake-Up Call is made with green tea, yerba mate, blueberries and cane sugar. All four options include kombucha culture, which is said to aid digestion and immune health.

Get cheesy with queso flights at Blue Mesa Southwest Grill

Texas is famous for Tex-Mex, and popular chain Blue Mesa Southwest Grill, with locations in Dallas and the surrounding area, takes it a step further with a queso flight. Dig into classic queso, spinach and artichoke queso, and ground beef-chorizo queso on your next visit. It’s the perfect appetizer to share with friends, margarita in hand.

Go beyond delivery with pizza flights at The Mitten Brewing Co.

The Mitten Brewing Co., in Grand Rapids, Michigan, serves beer flights (it is a brewery, after all), but the pizza flights are just as good. Sample any six specialty pizzas, including the special of the week, for $24.99. There are 13 specialty pizza options, including chicken and waffles, Mediterranean, pesto chicken and deluxe.

Indulge your sweet tooth with a pie flight at Baked Pie Company

Baked Pie Company in Asheville, North Carolina, knows it’s hard to choose from their dozens of pie and cheesecake options. That’s why they offer a pie flight. Guests can pick any three flavors and a scoop of ice cream, so decision-making is a little easier...and food flights just got a whole lot sweeter!
