We recently stayed at the Essex Street Inn & Suites for two nights in July 2025. Everything from the location to the staff made our stay memorable. The inn sits just steps from downtown Newburyport which was perfect for walking to restaurants, shops, and the harbor. Parking was free (a bonus for central lodging), though the spaces were quite tight. Our room was spotless and tastefully furnished with a cozy New England feel. Beds were plush and we slept well. Staff were consistently helpful—especially when we requested a different pillow to suit our comfort. The free breakfast buffet offered pastries, coffee, and other basics in addition to breakfast sandwiches, nice to have.

Our deck was a disaster. It was supposed to be a nice birthday weekend and was booked months before. It should not have been rented. I was offered no compensation and would have booked a normal suite as we love the hotel and have stayed there numerous times. I took video if you would like to see the condition? Also the bathroom would like you in if you shut the door? Again, we love the hotel and was surprised we were not compensated in any way.
