Things to do in Victor Harbor

Ride the historic Horse Drawn Tram across the causeway to the Granite Island Recreation Park, renowned for its colony of fairy penguins and striking granite rock formations. Explore scenic nature trails and outdoor sculptures, and join a guided night tour to see the penguin parade make their way home to their burrows from a day out on the ocean. Check out the Oceanic Victor’s amazing in-sea aquarium for underwater adventures.

 

Explore pristine ocean wilderness at the Encounter Marine Park, which stretches along the Fleurieu coastline from Port Noarlunga to the top of the Coorong. See amazing dive sites, spectacular reefs and the magnificent sea lion colony. From May to October, catch a glimpse of majestic humpback and southern right whales in their annual migration from Antarctica to the warmer waters off Australia’s coast to breed.

 

Ride the historic Cockle Train along the oldest steel railway in Australia, which runs between Goolwa and Victor Harbor. Part of the SteamRanger heritage fleet of steam and diesel locomotives, the Cockle Train ride takes about half an hour each way, hugging the coast with picturesque views of coastal scenery along the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Fishing spots in Victor Harbor

Fishing enthusiasts can cast a line for mulloway or salmon trout at the Murray Mouth, Waitpinga Beach or Antechamber Bay. Horseshoe Bay at nearby Port Elliot is another popular fishing spot for salmon trout and Australian herring, while further along the coast, you can wet a line at the jetty or beach at Goolwa.

How do I get to Victor Harbor?

Just over an hour’s drive south, Victor Harbor is an easy day trip from Adelaide. The scenic drive from Melbourne will take you just over 8 hours. Buses run regularly between Adelaide and Victor Harbor, taking about 1hr 40 mins. You can also catch a train from Adelaide to Seaford and a connecting bus from Seaford to Victor Harbor, with the journey taking about 1.5 hours.
