Magic City on a Budget

• Follow the footsteps of history. Spend some time walking through the Birmingham Civil Rights District to see where many significant events took place during the fight for racial equality in the 1950s and 1960s. Be sure to visit the historic Kelly Ingram Park and Carver Theatre (also home to the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame) the Karl C. Harrison Museum of George Washington, which offers free admission.
• Spend a day surrounded by nature. Aldrige Gardens is a 30-acre spread of nature and art in the center of the city's hustle and bustle. Discover beautiful flower gardens, art galleries, a sparkling lake and gorgeous walking trails. In the summer, the park is bustling with a free concert series, classes and seminars, bird walks and more. Moss Rock Preserve, just outside the city in Hoover, has great walking trails among a unique ecosystem of rare plants and wildlife. Looking for something a little more thrilling?
