Stay with Choice Hotels near Mount Rainier National Park in Washington State and enjoy the great outdoors at this gorgeous park!
This stunningly beautiful area was established as a national park on March 2, 1899. Encompassing 236,381 acres, it is the fifth-largest national park in the United States and has elevations that range from 1,600 feet to over 14,000 feet. Due to its fantastic examples of 1920s and 1930s National Park Service rustic-style architecture – also known as “parkitecture” -- the park was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1997. The park contains 42 locations designated on the National Register of Historic Places, including four National Historic Landmarks. Mount Rainier, a 14,410-foot-high stratovolcano, is the highest point in the Cascade Range and is a popular peak for mountaineering. Approximately 10,000 people attempt to reach its summit each year, and roughly half of these hikers are successful in their quest. The mountain rises abruptly from the surrounding land, which includes spectacular valleys, waterfalls, subalpine meadows, 91,000 acres of old-growth forest, and more than 25 glaciers. The volcano is often shrouded in clouds that dump enormous amounts of rain and snow on the peak and hide it from park visitors.
The mountain is covered by 35 square miles of snowfields and several glaciers, including the largest glaciers by volume and area in the contiguous United States. At approximately 5,400 feet on the south slope of Mount Rainier is the most popular destination within the park for visitors – this area is called Paradise. This is the location of the historic Paradise Inn, which was built in 1916, and the Paradise Guide House, which was built in 1920. The National Park Service says that "Paradise is the snowiest place on Earth where snowfall is measured regularly!” Take advantage of Choice Hotels and all that they have to offer you while you are near Mount Rainier National Park.
