Satisfy Your Inner Train Geek

Located right in the heart of historic downtown Plano, the Interurban Railway Museum offers you a chance to immerse yourself in the history of the Texas Electric Railway. Housed in an old train station building in Haggard Park, the museum includes a rotating assortment of exhibits and hands-on displays. Learn the science behind how the electric railway worked and take a free guided tour of Car 360, a vintage train car that once carried passengers across the region.

Take in a Free Comedy Show

Everybody loves a good laugh. And you can see a show without spending a dime at Hyena's Comedy Nightclub on Thursday nights. Comedians from across the country perform at Hyena's every weekend, usually doing free shows on Thursdays in advance of their ticketed shows on Friday and Saturday. A free comedy show is a pretty sure bet when you're looking for fun things to do in Plano.

Get Back to Nature

You can spend time exploring several excellent parks in Plano, but Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve is by far the biggest. It spans 800 acres and is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the natural world when you need a break from the city. This largely undisturbed environment includes thick forests, trickling streams and wildflower-strewn meadows where you can enjoy a picnic lunch and explore more than eight miles of hiking and bicycling trails.

See a Free Outdoor Concert

Haggard Park hosts a series of free concerts every summer, courtesy of the Plano Community Band. The band is made up of around 70 musicians who play an incredible range of musical styles using an equally impressive assortment of instruments—always for free. The summer concert series begins the first Monday in June with a total of five performances taking place every other Monday. The band also performs free spring and fall concerts at the Charles W. Eisemann Center for Performing Arts if you're traveling to Plano during that time of year.
