Pigeon Forge Vacation Tips From Our Experts

Show up late to Dollywood

Get the most of your time at the friendliest amusement park this side of the Mississippi. Arrive at the incomparable Dollywood after 3 p.m. (or after 6 p.m. during Smoky Mountain Christmas) and you can enter the park on the next day completely free of charge. It’s truly one of the best deals in Pigeon Forge, at one of the best amusement parks in the country.

Take the Trolley

Save on gas-money by ditching the car and, instead, ride the Pigeon Forge Trolley—an easy, affordable way to get around. With connecting service to nearby Sevierville and Gatlinburg, the trolley lets you explore nearby Smoky Mountain attractions without the stress of finding parking or dealing with traffic. All day passes are just $2.50 per person, while one-way fares range from just 50 to 75 cents!

Discover the historic Old Mill

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and just as it was in the 19th century, the Old Mill in Pigeon Forge is still one of the most popular places in the area. It’s also one of the most photographed mills in the country. While you’re there, fill up on free samples at the candy kitchen while window-shopping the Old Mill Shopping District.

Spend a day surrounded by nature

Take a hike through America’s most-visited national park. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is renowned for its diverse plant and animal life, natural beauty, and the remnants of Southern Appalachian mountain culture. If you’d rather experience nature without breaking a sweat, then take a drive through Cades Cove and get a peek at the historic churches and buildings. It only costs the gas to drive the loop, and a dollar donation for an optional informational pamphlet at the beginning of the tour.

Browse Smoky Mountain crafts and creations

The Great Smoky Arts & Crafts Community is the largest group of independent artisans in the country. The community is situated on an 8-mile loop in nearby Gatlinburg and is home to dozens of unique shops filled with local photography, paintings, quilts and clothing, hand-made jewelry, artisan treats and so much more. It’s absolutely free to browse and a great way to spend a day!

Take the kids—they get in for free!

Several Pigeon Forge shows offer free admission for the kiddos (with a paying adult ticket)—including the Smith Family Dinner Show and Country Tonite. Many of the shows offer discounted adult tickets too when you purchase in advance or bundle with another show. Check the box office for these great deals and more before booking.
