The room was clean but little else offered

I totally understand that less expensive lower tier hotels give their customers amenities commensurate with the hotel rate but, I still expect a shower curtain that closes so that water from the shower doesn’t get all over the bathroom floor. I also expect working lightbulbs in every lamp and I definitely do not expect being harassed to qualify why I’d like an additional towel.

Dear Customer Service Team, We are long-time loyal guests of Choice Hotels, having exclusively stayed with your brand for over four decades. Our family has consistently trusted your properties to deliver hospitality and comfort—until our recent stay at Quality Inn & Suites in Ridgeland, MS (221 James Taylor Rd), from which we checked out on July 5, 2025. Unfortunately, this visit marked a deeply troubling departure from the standards we’ve always associated with your brand. It was, without question, the most distressing hotel experience we’ve ever had. Upon entering our room, we were immediately confronted with several issues: A strong, unpleasant odor permeated the room. The in-room phone—despite a dial tone—was completely non-functional and unable to reach the front desk or make outgoing calls. After reporting the issue in person, a front desk representative contacted maintenance. Mr. Raj, introduced as both the owner and sole maintenance staff, initially insisted the phone was working. Upon further request, he returned to the room with a receptionist, verified the issue, and ultimately replaced the unit. Rather than offering an apology, Mr. Raj made an inappropriate and disrespectful comment to my wife in front of our children, saying, “Your husband has some issues.” Additional concerns during our stay included: Kids mention mold and multiple insect sightings, which forced us to temporarily vacate the room. Continued odors, an A/C unit locked at 69°F, low water pressure, and a television with no sound. Minimal staff presence throughout the stay, with contact limited to a phone number taped to the front desk. Rudeness and poor customer service, including denial of fresh towels unless used ones were physically returned. A broken waffle machine, to which staff responded dismissively to our children, saying they should “eat something else.” Inadequate breakfast options, many of which were inedible. Denial of access to the swimming pool, which staff said was dirty and awaiting cleaning. An attempt to speak with the manager was unsuccessful—the call was abruptly ended and the phone turned off thereafter. What made this even more heartbreaking is that this stay was part of our anniversary celebration. Our children were reduced to tears from bug bites and the inability to sleep in such uncomfortable conditions. We respectfully request a full refund for our stay at this property.
