Step Out on a Self-Guided Walking Tour of Philadelphia at the Sleep Inn Center City

The best way to see the City of Brotherly Love is by taking a stroll through its historically rich streets

Philadelphia is ranked the 5th most walkable city in America—so obviously one of the best ways to see it is on foot! The Sleep Inn® Center City is the perfect place to get a great night's rest and wake up ready for a day of sightseeing. Our hotel is just a quick walk from the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and other iconic attractions. Plus, we’ve created an easy-to-follow self-guided walking tour to help you get the most out of each step.

1. PHILADELPHIA CONVENTION CENTER

One of the greatest perks of staying at the Sleep Inn Center City is that it’s right next door to the Philadelphia Convention Center. Whether you’re attending a conference or simply want to witness Philly’s downtown business district in action, this is the perfect place to start your city tour.

2. CHINATOWN

Next stop is Chinatown. Dim sum is a Chinese meal traditionally served mid-morning, but in Philadelphia, you can get your fill of tasty steamed dumplings any time of day. Be sure to check out the highly rated Dim Sum Garden on Race Street, just a one-minute walk from the hotel.

3. NATIONAL CONSTITUTION CENTER

Walk off your meal by heading toward the National Constitution Center. It’s just 10 minutes away, and you’ll find fun interactive exhibits that teach you about the U.S. Constitution. Don’t forget to greet the Founding Fathers in Signers’ Hall (life size bronze statues recreate the last day of the Constitutional Convention) and pose for a pic with your favorite.

4. LIBERTY BELL CENTER

One piece of U.S. history that can’t be missed while visiting Philadelphia is the iconic Liberty Bell. Walk southwest along the pathways of Independence National Historical Park for approximately 15 minutes until you arrive at the Liberty Bell Center. About halfway to the bell is the Independence Visitor Center where you can learn more about the surrounding park and pick up some souvenirs.

5. INDEPENDENCE HALL

Round out your stroll through the park with a visit to Independence Hall. The iconic red brick building is only two-minutes from the Liberty Bell on the other side of Chestnut Street. What’s this landmark’s claim to fame? Once inside, you’ll get to stand in the very same room where both the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were signed. Yes, history was literally made here.

6. WALNUT STREET THEATRE

Walk about six minutes to gaze upon the historic Walnut Street Theatre. Opened in 1809, this architectural and cultural landmark is said to be the oldest continuously operating theatre in the country. Get the full experience by purchasing tickets to see one of the many plays, musicals or original productions featured throughout the season.

7. READING TERMINAL MARKET

Now that you’ve walked all this way, you’re probably hungry. Simply make your way to Reading Terminal Market (just a little more walking to get there—around 10 minutes). It’s one of the largest and oldest public markets in the U.S., and it features a variety of food stalls and restaurants offering everything yummy from Dutch apple dumplings to Philly’s famous cheesesteak. After that, treat yourself to dessert from Bassetts Ice Cream, America’s oldest ice cream company. It’ll make your walk back to your hotel extra sweet.
