6 Places to Go When You’re Working Late in Charlotte
Pull up a seat at these productivity-friendly spots
Charlotte is packed with options for late-night working.
Working hours aren’t always 9 to 5 for business travelers. When you need to escape the confines of your hotel room, visit these six Queen City spots great for burning the midnight oil.
At-home vibe at Amelie’s French Bakery & Café
Funky French art and a solid coffee and sweets selection have attracted Charlotte locals and visitors to Amelie’s for nearly a decade. With four Charlotte locations that stay open late, Amelie’s is a natural choice for an early morning croissant and a cup of joe or a late-night macaron and a glass of wine while you work. The spaciousness of the flagship North Davidson location, which is open 24 hours a day, means getting a table shouldn’t be a problem, and the homey nature of each room gives off a cozy vibe—almost like you're plugging in from your own living room.
A business-friendly brewery at Hyde Brewing and The Suffolk Punch
A newer addition to Charlotte’s growing brewery scene, Hyde Brewing offers lots of long inside tables and a beer garden out back. Wooden, earthy accents soften the edgy-industrial space; the crowds are eclectic; and the tunes are kept low enough not to completely thwart concentration. The Coffee Bar, offering simple drips or the fancier lattes and such, opens at 6:30 a.m. on weekdays; in the evenings, you can order one of their two brews or one of the dozens of local and regional beers on tap. Food is also available at the Suffolk Punch, which shares the space, and is open until midnight, Thursday to Saturday. Sunday to Wednesday hours vary, but it’s open until at least 9 pm or later on those days.
The staple, reinvented at Reid’s Fine Foods
Reid’s Fine Foods has been a Charlotte mainstay since 1928, but it’s only recently gained traction as a hot spot happy hour destination for food and wine lovers. Either the Myers Park store or newer South Park location of the upscale grocery chain and wine shop are solid choices, though the South Park location is a bit larger. Post up at the wine bar and order a glass and small bite. (The pizzas and burgers are favorites.) You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu here, especially during half-off wine and burger nights. Happy hour crowds can get a bit loud during busy after-work windows and on weekends, but if you time it right, Reid’s is a classic pick for a chill work spot. Bonus: the wine bar is open until 10 p.m., except on Sundays.
Funky and focused at Earl’s Grocery
While it isn’t open extremely late (it closes at 8:30 p.m. on weekdays), Earl’s Grocery is a classic space for the right-after-work crunch. Grab a snack from the many prepared food options or go the made-to-order route (we like the bahn mi sandwich with lemongrass pulled pork), and kick back with one of several wines by the glass in the evening. Or opt for a simple, tasty coffee and plug in at the bar in the back, which is lined with plenty of wall outlets. On nice days, the open-air garage doors welcome in the breeze. Knock out two birds with one stone while you’re there and pick up locally and regionally sourced gifts.
Central-chic at Coco and the Director

Couch cushions and pillows are sprinkled in the stadium-style seating at Coco and the Director, an industrial-chic Uptown coffee shop at Trade and Church streets. Wine-and-coloring Wednesdays bring out the happy hour crowd, but for the most part the space is quiet, and it’s large enough to snag a seat and ideal for after-hours meetings or cranking solo.

For a quaint, tucked-away neighborhood favorite, hit up the Dilworth Tasting Room. Its charcuterie plate is worth a note to those back home, and the owners are friendly and always willing to suggest a wine or beer from their many options. Pastries reign supreme during breakfast hours (7–10 a.m.), and their outdoor patio with a koi pond makes for a peaceful spot to get your evening tasks done. Open until 10 pm, Monday to Thursday, 11 pm on Friday and Saturday, and 8 pm on Sunday.
