Explore the best hotel deals in Reno, and plan to save even more on your trip by finding free and inexpensive things to do. Of course, you’ll want to visit the casinos. How to Save Money in Reno

Free and Inexpensive Things to Do in Reno

Take a shot at the Reno Arch—both of them.

The famous lighted arch was originally placed over the main drag in 1926 to celebrate completion of the Transcontinental Highway. The one you see downtown today is not the original, but you’ll want to snap a selfie anyway because this mid-century- mod structure is one of the most photographed in the world. Find its predecessor down on Lake Street. Both are worth a shot.

      Walk the Riverwalk.

When you need to take a break from the casinos, the Riverwalk along the Truckee River is the place to be. Locals and visitors love it, especially during the marvelously mild spring and fall seasons. Browse shops, galleries and restaurants, or just enjoy the reprieve. Enjoy Wingfield Park, too, an island in the middle of the river, where seasonal events are held.

Navigate the big waves on this little river.

The Truckee River Whitewater Park at Wingfield welcomes kayakers of all skill levels to this half-mile whitewater “park” that features class-2 and -3 rapids. The Reno River Festival takes place each May

Visiting in July? That’s when “Reno is Artown.”

More than 500 performances, including live music, art shows, dance and theater and headliners converge, transforming this formerly scruffy little Western town into an arts and cultural mecca. The best part: 70% of the events are free.

Head to Rancho San Rafael Park for more fresh air.

This is the largest park in town, with hundreds of acres to walk, linger and play. There is a petting zoo, a flume ride, a playground and a nature discovery center too, as well as a museum that offers a look at the park's previous life as a working ranch.

Ace your visit at Greater Nevada Field.

Head over the minor-league ballpark. Take in a game or a tour in the spring-summer months. Or, opt for a little “Aceskating” in the winter.

Enjoy an immersive experience at the National Auto Museum.

Walk through cobblestone street scenes, honk horns, and kick the tires of the antique rides while wearing a hat and driving duster. This is one of the best in the country and totally worth a fun photo, at just $10 for adults; $4 for kids 6-18.
