Stores Galore: Shop Chicago-style at These Can't Miss Locations

Regardless of your preferences, you'll find no shortage shops in Chicago

From great deals at outlet malls and designer products in boutiques to one-of-a-kind finds in mom and pop establishments, shopping in Chicago is a varied experience. No matter how big or small your budget, no matter how common or eclectic your tastes, you'll find a wide assortment of places to shop in Chicago.

The Magnificent Mile

Set on 13 blocks along Michigan Avenue, aka the Magnificent Mile, remains Chicago's most popular shopping district. Home to more than 460 retailers, the variety of shops runs the gamut from mid-range chain stores to upscale designer labels. Stand-outs include the world's largest Polo Ralph Lauren store, the flagship Crate & Barrel store, and two indoor malls: the Shops at North Bridge and 900 North Michigan Shops, which offer more than 100 stores and restaurants.

Oak Street

Break open your piggy bank before heading to Oak Street, one of Chicago's ritziest retail destinations. Measuring just two short blocks, this shopping district is home to an array of expensive boutiques. Take a peek inside Kate Spade and Prada, as well as the famed upscale department store Barneys New York. There's also the Bravco Beauty Center, a seemingly modest drugstore that sells high-end beauty products. A quick heads up—most shops are closed on Sundays.

State Street

Extending for just one-half mile in the heart of the Loop, State Street's retail district showcases moderately priced and discount chain stores. Macy's State Street covers an entire city block and remains one of the most famous department stores in Chicago. Check out the store's mosaic Tiffany glass-domed ceiling and enjoy lunch in the 1907 Walnut Room adorned with lavish chandeliers. The seventh-floor food court features trendy fast food offerings by celebrity chefs.

Wicker Park and Bucktown

Wicker Park and Bucktown is a bit of a hipster's paradise with a retail district comprised primarily of independently owned boutiques, thrift shops and record stores. Grab unique goods at shops selling everything from clothing for men and women to toys to home goods. Make sure to visit Myopic Books, one of Chicago's oldest and largest book stores, where titles are stuffed into crowded bookcases.

Fashion Outlets of Chicago

Looking for the best deals around? Make the 20-minute drive west of downtown to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago. Spend your day bargain shopping at the mall's approximately 130 outlet stores, including a variety of luxury shops and department stores. Near O’Hare International Airport, the mall offers unique services, including the ability to print your boarding pass and check luggage and shopping bags to your final destination.
