Dog-Friendly Cities

Your dog is like a member of the family, so why would you go on vacation without them?

But don't worry—these dog friendly cities offer plenty of attractions to keep you and your furry friend busy.

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston has all kinds of fun activities for you and your pooch, like the  Island Romp for Dogs & Dog Lovers, a boat tour of the Boston Harbor Islands, hosted by City Water Taxi of Boston. You can also go for a run at nearby Callahan State Park, or along the Back Bay Fens, a dog-friendly walking path through the heart of the city. Leashed dogs are also welcome on the Freedom Trail, though they may not be permitted inside some of the historic sites en route.  View all pet-friendly hotels in Boston.

New York, New York

One of the most walkable cities in America, New York gives pets and their owners plenty of territory to explore. Major attractions like the Grand Central Terminal and much of Central Park are dog friendly, and one of the best ways to see the city is to walk with your dog across the Brooklyn Bridge. New York is also home to a wide selection of dog-friendly restaurants, including Manhattan's aptly named Barking Dog Luncheonette.   View all pet-friendly hotels in New York.

Portland, Oregon

With more than 30 off-leash dog parks, Portland offers plenty of space for Fido to roam free. The two of you can both get some exercise on the Powell Butte Trail, and then head over to the Portland Market to sniff out some fresh produce and other goodies. Later on, mosey on down to the back patio of the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub for some refreshments—water for him, locally made craft beer for you.   View all pet-friendly hotels in Portland.

Plus, your (on-leash) pet is welcome aboard Blue and Gold Fleet Bay Cruises, which explore classic San Francisco Bay sites like Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge.  View all pet-friendly hotels in San Francisco.

Seattle, Washington

An abundance of pet-friendly restaurants has cemented Seattle's status as one of the best cities for dogs, with Norm's Eatery and Ale House and The Summit Public House welcoming dogs inside. If that doesn't satisfy your taste buds, well-behaved pets are also encouraged to follow their owners aboard the Fremont Sunday Ice Cream Cruise. You can work off the calories later at the 6-acre Warren G. Magnuson Park Off-Leash Dog Area.   View all pet-friendly hotels in Seattle.

Austin, Texas

Austin has a similar attitude toward pets as toward people—everybody's welcome. You'll find dog-friendly shops and restaurant patios all over the city, plus parks like Red Bud Isle,  where dogs can run free with no leash required.
