If you're anywhere in Virginia, you aren't far from lovely Smith Mountain Lake. Located halfway between the cities of Roanoke and Lynchburg, about 40 miles from each, the lake is only a two-hour drive from Raleigh and four hours from Washington, D.C. Small, friendly communities on the lake shores—including the town of Smith Mountain Lake—provide your necessities, including grocery stores, banks and dining options. But it's the lake itself—all 20,600 acres of it—that provides the fun.

Family Fun on the Water

You've never dived into cleaner water! Filtered by the native trees and plants on its shores, the lake's water is known for its purity. But that doesn't mean you can't play on it.
