7 Days of Houston Photos Through the Lens of a Local
Hi, I’m Marco Torres, better known across my city as Marco From Houston. I am a full-time freelance photographer and taco journalist. That’s right—I make a living from taking photos and eating tacos. If you’re wondering, yes, it is the best job ever! H-Town is the most diverse city in the country, and as an ambassador of it, it’s my duty to show the world the treasures found here. From tacos to fine dining, rap concerts to opera, there is always something happening in Houston.
Saturday: This day is pretty much a free-for-all. I’d start with a plate of tacos for breakfast (yes, breakfast!) at La Casa Bakery & Cafe, a family-run community spot that offers warm and fluffy handmade flour tortillas, fresh pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) and some of the best breakfast tacos in the city. Later, head to lunch at either 8th Wonder Brewery or Saint Arnold’s Brewing Company (pro tip: check out the crawfish roll—crawfish season is at its peak in March, April and May). In the evening, visit the 300 block of Main Street for a cocktail; then skip clubs that require a strict dress code and go for a casual night of fun and dancing at Barbarella.

Here are some Houston photos that show just a few ways I like to spend my time in the city—and if you happen to see a bespectacled photographer wearing an Astros ball cap while you’re in town, it’s probably me. Say cheese! Photo Credits: Marco Torres
Sunday: New music venues continue to pop up all over the city. One of the newer and coolest venues is White Oak Music Hall in the historic Near Northside neighborhood, just north of downtown Houston hotels and attractions. With two indoor stages and a larger outdoor stage, it’s a perfect way to spend the evening with friends.
