Arlington: A City for Sports
The mascots are true to the state and their sports loving residents with teams like cowboys and rangers
Sports lovers, get in on the action and watch touch downs and home runs in person by head to Arlington. This city, tucked between Fort Worth and Dallas, is home to amusement parks and a lake that's loved by boaters and fishermen. But it's Arlington's multimillion dollar sports complexes and pro teams that really make this city a winner.
TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
Start your engines! Thirty miles northwest of Arlington, you’ll find the Texas Motor Speedway, where fast cars reign supreme. This speedway hosts NASCAR and other race events throughout the year. Cheer on your favorite driver and ogle the muscle cars in the parking lot. If you're in town when no races are scheduled, take a tour. For a small fee, you can get a taste of the good life—enjoy the view from the luxury suites and take a spin around the track from the safety of a tour van. Contact the speedway to arrange a tour.
AT&T STADIUM
Here in the heart of Texas, where football reigns supreme, the Cowboys charge their way to victory at Arlington's AT&T Stadium. You can also catch A-list musical acts performing at this stadium with the largest big screen in America, but even if you visit on a random Tuesday, you'll find something to see. Purchase a self-guided tour, which gives you access to the field and locker rooms (among other spots), or pay a little more for a VIP tour led by a knowledgeable guide. You can also take a tour that highlights the stadium's artwork.
GLOBE LIFE PARK
Take yourself out to a ball game at Globe Life Park, home of the Texas Rangers. This ballpark, which opened in 1994, is just a mile down the road from AT&T Stadium, making this Arlington neighborhood a mecca for sports fans. Pay for a pregame tour and catch batting practice before the rest of the crowd arrives. You can also take a guided tour during the off season. See Major League sights such as the batting cages and dugout without having to perfect your curve ball.
COLLEGE PARK CENTER
Prefer college sports to the pros? Head to the College Park Center at the University of Texas at Arlington. The state-of-the-art stadium opened in 2012. It's the home base for the UTA men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams (go Mavericks!) as well as other events such as concerts. Get there early for a game and walk around the College Park district, where you can visit the UTA bookstore and grab a bite. You'll have your choice of restaurants, but you can also follow the college kids to find the best pizza and affordable local eateries.
