AMUSEMENT AND WATER PARK FUN IN MYRTLE BEACH
How does Myrtle Beach's amusement park scene steal your attention away from its famous beach, which attracts sun-worshipers from around the globe
Pack your swimwear to experience the 10-story water slides, water flumes that offer bird's-eye views of the Atlantic, a 2,400-foot roller coaster with more twists than a pretzel shop and a Grand Prix-themed park—when it's time to switch gears. Choosing to go to your people—or taking them with you—is easy when it means endless fun in the sun.
MYRTLE WAVES WATER PARK
Dive headlong into the watery fun at Myrtle Waves, where slippery slides, rushing rapids and precipitous plunges are spread over 20 acres of lush South Carolina greenery. Join two daring companions on the three Turbo Twisters, shooting down 10 stories of contorted tubes at up to 50 feet per second. You'll each travel completely different—and totally dark—routes to the pool below. Plunge down the 350-foot Riptide Rocket, going airborne before splashing into the lagoon. For a change of pace, relax in an inner tube and drift down the LayZee River. If you have toddlers aboard, head for Bubble Bay, where the deep end is only 18 inches.
SPLASHES WATER PARK
Think a water park right on the beach sounds like overkill? Family Kingdom's Splashes will change your mind. Drink in the view of the Atlantic Ocean from the top of the 100-foot Wet and Wild Water Flumes before careening down hairpin turns. Introduce the little ones to the fun of going down the Children's Area water slides, specially sized for kids under 48 inches. Cradle yourself in a floating tube and escape the heat under the Lazy River's waterfalls or in its deep, dark cave.
FAMILY KINGDOM AMUSEMENT PARK
When you're saturated with water-park fun, dry off at the seaside Family Kingdom Amusement Park. It's home to the vintage Swamp Fox Rollercoaster, a wooden monster with curves that will have you screaming in delight. The steel Twist 'n' Shout coaster ride thrills with stomach-churning dives and white-knuckle lateral moves. Shoot your way through the Pistolero Roundup, an interactive dark ride created originally for Family Kingdom. Kids 52 inches and under can go solo on a mini roller coaster, the Ferris Wheel, bumper cars and 14 other rides. Gamers in the crowd can test their luck at the Arcade or Midway.
BROADWAY GRAND PRIX
Broadway Grand Prix' seven go-kart racetracks let ladies and gentlemen of all ages start their engines and race through hours of full-throttle, twisting, turning and banking fun. Speed on the fastest Grand Prix Pro Track maxes out at a safe 20 mph. When even the Kid's Track is too challenging, check out the KidZone, where your littlest ones can go-kart down Kiddie Speedway, hop on the carousel or view the park on Sky Wheels, a colorful, racing-themed Ferris wheel. Prefer flying to driving? Harness up—alone or with a buddy—and soar through the air suspended from the 100-foot Sky Coaster. Miniature golf, the Grand Prix Arcade and a rock-climbing wall round out the attractions.
