Getting a taste of the culinary and cocktail scene of Philadelphia doesn’t mean you have to spend big in the City of Brotherly Love. Check out these Philadelphia happy hours to find fun, affordable ways to sample some of the best food and drinks in town.
Enjoy cold brews and great views
Located in the old Bok Vocational School in South Philadelphia, Bok Bar stuns with its panoramic rooftop views of the city. Choose from beer and wine, as well as food options like watermelon salad with sumac, mint and labneh ($5). Be sure to get there when they open at 5 p.m. so you can enjoy every second of the breathtaking sunset (photo ops encouraged).
Savor the flavor and the company
You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone in your group who doesn’t love tacos! At Mission Taqueria, not only do you get $2 tacos, from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday, but they’re slinging $6 margaritas (available spicy too!) and $3 Coronas. Be sure to take advantage of this Philadelphia happy hour and nosh on some queso gringo, chicharron with lime and sea salt, pork carnitas or chicken tacos or veggie sopes. This brightly lit joint, located in Center City, has a jovial atmosphere, full of diverse people of all ages.
Sip to your heart’s content
Although they boast a wine list of more than 60 selections, don’t miss the $5 sangria at Vintage Wine Bar & Bistro. The $4 house wines are also way more sophisticated than any vino typically purchased for the home. But if wine isn’t your thing, they still have a full bar, as well as $3 lagers and bistro-style bites ranging from $3 to $7. Pro tip: Get there early to snag outside seating or a table by the window.
All aboard for a waterfront scene
The Deck at Moshulu, located on the world’s oldest and largest square-rigged sailing vessel that’s still afloat, is open May-September and offers a Philadelphia happy hour on the water, Monday through Friday 4-6 p.m. Revel in the outside seating where you can enjoy small plates, well-crafted cocktails, sandwiches and chilled seafood, all while taking in the stunning views of the waterfront and Philly skyline. Keep an eye out for unique events (yoga on a boat!) and live music.
Seek out a special experience
Offering Philadelphia happy hour specials seven days a week (not just the typical Monday-Friday), Cheu Fishtown is rewarding those in the know with their inventive twists on classic dishes. Located in a 19th-century carriage house previously used for police horses, $5 plates include chicken wontons and black garlic wings (they’re so good you’ll enthusiastically lick your fingers). Wash it all down with $1-off draft beers, $7 house wines, a $7 cocktail of the day or $12 Sapporo pitchers.
