Canton has a typical Midwest climate, with summers that are hot but rarely uncomfortable, with a lot of days in the low 80s. Bring an umbrella if you plan to visit in spring; showers are fairly common from April to June. Both spring and autumn call for a light jacket; and although Canton is far enough south that it misses a lot of the lake-effect snow that gets dumped on Cleveland, freezing temperatures are the norm during wintertime.

Lots to See and Do

Staying busy in Canton is easy. The downtown Canton Arts District is packed with one-of-a-kind art galleries, shops, bars, music venues and more restaurants per capita in the metro area than in New York City. You can also head to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, where 115,000 square feet of exhibits and displays will fascinate football fans of any age. Tune in to history at the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum, or go play outdoors at the Wilderness Center in the nearby town of Wilmot.

Explore Canton's Industry

Manufacturing has historically been the lifeblood of northeast Ohio, and to this day it remains one of the leading industries in Canton. Factories in the Canton area produce everything from stained glass to chocolates. You can even take public tours of some of the city's factories, including the Harry London/Fannie May chocolate factory. Health care and education are major parts of the Canton economy as well.

Getting Around

If you plan on flying to Canton, you'll probably be arriving at Akron-Canton Airport, about 15 minutes north of the city, which offers direct flights to and from major cities all over the country. Greyhound offers bus service to Canton, and the Stark Area Regional Transit Authority provides local bus service all over the city. If you prefer to arrive in your own car, you'll find Canton easily accessible from Interstate Highway 77 and U.S. Routes 30 and 62.
