You won't suffer a dull moment when you visit Atlantic City. Whether you find your thrills at a blackjack table, or you’d rather dance the night away to your favorite music, this New Jersey resort town will keep your pulse racing. When you’re ready for a more relaxing moment, take a stroll down the Boardwalk or visit the "other side" of the city, where a handful of casinos tower over the peaceful bay. Enjoy the best of both worlds as you make your way through Atlantic City.
Seaside Weather
You’ll enjoy mild weather in Atlantic City during the spring and summer months, with temperatures ranging from the 60s to mid-80s. Evenings bring cool breezes off the ocean, so pack a jacket or sweater if you plan to walk the boards after dark. Winter temperatures are chilly. You’ll need a coat to walk around, and possibly even mittens and snow boots.
Roll the Dice
Whether you prefer a game of high-stakes poker, a spin of the roulette wheel or to try your luck at the slot machines, Atlantic City's casinos offer every kind of gaming. When you need a break, head outdoors for a long walk down the famous Atlantic City Boardwalk or ride the boards in a rolling chair. Do some people-watching, grab some salt water taffy or shop for kitschy souvenirs. Beach concerts draw tens of thousands of visitors in the summer. Bring your beach blanket and enjoy the sounds of surf and music from headline performers like Blake Shelton and Maroon 5.
Your little ones can get a thrill on the rides and attractions at Steel Pier, extending 1,000 feet over the Atlantic Ocean. They might enjoy a short side trip to see Lucy the Elephant, a six-story historical landmark in nearby Margate. Climb the spiral staircase inside Lucy to gaze out at a stunning 360-degree view of the shore, ocean and distant bay.
Tourism is Tops
Tourism is what runs this resort town as it is Atlantic City’s No. 1 industry; non-gambling activities bring in more than $1 billion annually. Powerful ocean breezes also contribute the area’s well-being. The five turbines at the Jersey Atlantic Wind Farm pump out power to about 2,500 homes. You can also see the farm and how wind power is generated for yourself in a guided tour.
Getting Around Town
If you travel to Atlantic City by air, you'll arrive at the Atlantic City International Airport, about 30 minutes away in Egg Harbor Township. Bus and train service with New Jersey Transit takes you directly into the city. Shuttles from the airport, bus and train terminals bring you and your family straight to your hotel. Get around town for just a few dollars on Atlantic City's jitneys, small shuttle buses that regularly run the length of Pacific Avenue alongside the Boardwalk.
