Know Before You Go: About Brunswick
Surrounded by the four beautiful Golden Isles, this coastal Georgian colonial town lined with palms and southern live oaks makes for an unforgettable family vacation paradise all year round
Take a stroll along the marina or in the charming, historic downtown area—just make sure you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy the picture-worthy scenery of Brunswick.
Brunswick Bursts With Sunny Days
Travel to Brunswick and you'll enjoy mild to hot weather most of the year—thanks, in large part, to the Atlantic Ocean. But the area also brings plenty of humidity and rain between June and September, so light, breathable clothing will definitely come in handy. Hurricanes do happen, but the advanced warning system helps keep you safe. Snow is a rarity. Spring, from late March through May, is one of the loveliest times of year to visit.
Fun Places in Brunswick
Check out the 19th century Ritz Theater and Grand Opera House for performances and exhibits. If you’re in the mood for some island-hopping action, Brunswick is the gateway to the barrier islands of Little St. Simon's Island, Jekyll Island, Sea Island and St. Simon's Island. The region is often referred to as the Gateway to the Golden Isles of Georgia. Check out the St. Simons Lighthouse Museum or relax on East Beach. Head for Jekyll Island and tour the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, a research and rehabilitation center.
Big Tourism in Brunswick
Spend time in Brunswick and you'll be contributing to the city's largest industry: tourism. Accommodations and food services make up nearly 23 percent of the economy. Add another 10 percent devoted to retail trade and that means tourists like you help support one-third of the city's economy. The fishing industry is also important. Boats supply local markets and restaurants, and also operate deep-sea fishing charters. Hop aboard one of the charter boats and you just might land "the big one."
Transportation
If you're flying, the easiest way is to catch a flight into the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. From the airport, rent a car or take a taxi or shuttle into downtown, only a few minutes away. Shuttle services, such as Island Transport Services or the Sea Island Shuttle, can also take you to the barrier islands. Catch a Greyhound bus from the Amtrak Station in Jesup, roughly 40 miles away. It will take you to the line's Brunswick Shell Truck Stop. The train and bus combination provides a relaxing, scenic alternative to air travel.
