About Hollywood

Hollywood is a boulevard, a neighborhood and an attitude. Technically part of Los Angeles, the area feels like a world apart—one dedicated to captivating fans like you.

From the iconic Hollywood sign on the hill to the stars on the sidewalk, Hollywood stands out as a magic mix of theme park and nostalgia, a love letter to the history of entertainment.

Treasures along Hollywood and Vine

The Walk of Fame is the heart of Hollywood, so lace up those walking shoes. You'll find the 2,553-plus stars—each bearing the name of an entertainment celebrity—embedded in sidewalks on both sides of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Find film memorabilia treasures here too, anything from posters of your favorite movies to old scripts and celebrity book signings. Treat your clan to a guided tour of the neighborhood on a double-decker bus, and don't miss seeing Hollywood's biggest stars up close and personal in the Madame Tussauds wax museum.

Sunny Side of the Street

It never rains in Southern California—or almost never. You're very likely to have sunny skies for your get-together, given the city's annual quota of 320 sunny days. You're in for months for warm weather from May through October, with highs in the 80s or 90s. Not that it chills off much after that, but in November to April high temperatures drop into the 70s and you're more likely to get a little rain.

No Business like Show Business

It's no surprise that the entertainment industry is a key facet of Hollywood’s economy and the greater Los Angeles economy. The motion picture and entertainment industry in L.A. County generates approximately $120 billion annually in output. Given all the glitzy hotels and restaurants that line Sunset Boulevard, leisure and hospitality are also big drivers in the economy. As is fitting for such a tourist center, retail is big here as well, so don't go home without a souvenir.

Getting Around Los Angeles

Getting to Los Angeles usually means flying into the Los Angeles International Airport or the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, which is easier to navigate and closer to most attractions. To use L.A.-speak, Bob Hope is "freeway close" to Hollywood, so rent a car at the airport and head on over to your hotel. If you want to avoid gridlock for the day, head down under the Hollywood & Highland Center and take the Metro Rail Red Line that runs under much of the area.
