Know Before You Go: About Hot Springs

Tranquil thermal springs and a community rich in history paves the way for an unforgettable vacation to Hot Springs, one of Arkansas’ most sought-after destinations

Step into the healing water and let your worries melt away or choose your own adventure and explore the great outdoors. The beautiful Ouachita Mountains offer everything from hiking and fishing to golfing and gambling. It’s no wonder that families call Hot Springs a getaway destination!

Hot Springs Adventures

Slipping into the steaming mineral waters is a vacation for the mind and body, but Hot Springs has more to offer than a calm mind and pruned skin. For scream-worthy excitement, hop on one of the rollercoasters at Magic Springs Theme Park, or soar 1,200 feet above the city at Hot Springs Mountain Tower. Paddle out to Lake Catherine or Lake Ouachita for a quiet day of fishing, or test your luck at Oaklawn Racing and Gaming. Be sure to dive into the region’s dark history at the National Gangster Museum, or even walk among spirits on a haunted tour.

Summer Heat, Winter Chill

The seasons are very distinct in Hot Springs, so you'll want to plan your activities accordingly. Temperatures in July and August reach upwards of 90 degrees, so you and the family can enjoy plenty of water activities. Spring and fall are cooler and wetter, while winter temperatures dip down into freezing temperatures with a possible few inches of snow.

Water, Water Everywhere

Hot Springs has long been famous for its natural, 147-degree spring water bubbling out of the ground and into the famed Bathhouse Row. The steaming mineral water has turned this city into a successful spa town. The economy flourishes, thanks to those who travel far and wide to enjoy the medicinal waters and other annual attractions.

Traveling to and Around Hot Springs

If you arrive on a relatively small plane, you can fly directly into the Hot Springs Memorial Field, only three miles away from town. Otherwise, you’ll land at the Little Rock National Airport, just 50 miles away. You can also hop on Amtrak's Texas Eagle and get dropped off right in town. For your own convenience, rent a car at the airport or Amtrak stop and take the entire family exactly where they want to go!
