Ineffective communication

I telephoned #403-388-4157 to make reservations at Comfort Inn, 4611 McLeod Trail, Calgary. I asked for confirmation of my reservation to be sent to my email. The clerk said that they did not send confirmations. He hung up. I telephoned again and asked another clerk for my reservation number. She gave me 62528011. When I got to the hotel, the clerk did find my reservation and checked me in. As I was leaving to go to dinner, the clerk stopped me and asked for my credit card. I attempted to use my credit card but the card was declined. I knew this was peculiar because my card was good. Later the clerk said that the card being declined was not my fault--that it was the fault of the centre that took my reservations and asked me to contact the reservation centre. I attempted to do so. Each time, I got an auto answer. It took me over 30 minutes to be able to reach a person. Finally, I did. Then, the person told me that the number I dialed was only for making initial reservations. Eventually, I got another auto call with an accent that was not of North America. The person appeared to be a speaker of English as a second language. The person was speaking really really fast. I could not understand the telephone number he was giving me. It took several phone calls to finally get the last four digits of the number as the last four digits were blurred and run together. At one point, a voice came on and announced that the voice could not help me because it was AI. Once I did manage to get the last four digits of the number, I called the telephone number. The clerk did confirm that I had paid and my reservation was secure. I went back to the clerk at the desk. She said that the paper work still had not been sent to the desk but for me to go ahead and have a good sleep. The confusion at the desk and trying to contact the reservation centre caused me to loose 2 hours of my evening during dinner time. The only thing that I could do was to go find a restaurant, eat, and then return back to the hotel because it was too late. When I got back to the hotel, the clerk at the desk said that the paper work would probably come after midnight. The room at the ho tel was nice. The breakfast was the usual help-your-self. The food was fine. Sure enough, when I went to check out, the clerk said that my bill was fine--that the paper work did come through. He did not give me a receipt. I really would like to have a receipt of my stay at Comfort Inn because I need it for business purposes. It should be noted that the clerk at the desk when I checked in said that from here on I would need to call the hotel directly to make reservations. She gave me a card with the direct number. Such number was not available when I made the reservations. I looked on the internet to find a hotel on McLeod Trail as my early morning appointment was on McLeod Trail. The number 403-388-4157 was what was showing. It should also be noted that speaking with an auto service or chat box is most inefficient and costly to the person who is trying to get information. It should also be noted that a speaker of English as a second language needs to be understood. I have been a teacher of English at all levels and of English second language. The rule is that the person must speak so as to be understood.
